Once I lose I lower the bet back down to the original amount.

I am very strict and never "chicken out". It gets extremely fun sometimes. If you succeed at a few hands in series your bets go up very fast. Before you know it you are gambling $100-200/ hand. I have had fantastic streaks a few times now. I left a $5 table at the Venetian a couple of years ago with $750 after 60 mins using this tactic! And a number of weeks ago in Macau I left a game with $1200!
